Mason Mount thinks Chelsea teammate Ben Chilwell was fantastic in last night’s epic win over Borussia Dortmund.
Mount, 24, was suspended for yesterday’s Champions League tie at home to Dortmund, which they trailed 1-0 from the first leg.
However, Graham Potter’s side saved their best to beat the German side 2-0 at Stamford Bridge and have now qualified for the quarter-finals of this season’s Champions League tournament.
Raheem Sterling was back on the scoresheet with the opening goal. Also, Kai Havertz scored a retaken penalty on a memorable European night under the lights.
Chelsea are now into the quarter-finals of Europe’s elite club competition again, but Rio Ferdinand doesn’t rate our changes too high of winning the whole thing.
Ben Chilwell impresses
Potter has moved back to a 3-4-2-1 system in the past two games, including in the win over Dortmund.
Chilwell is clearly one of the biggest winners from the formation change, as he was so influential from the left wing-back position yesterday.
The £50million defender assisted Sterling’s opening goal. In fact, he was one of the team’s most dangerous creative players, which included some fantastic corners into the box.
He was tenacious and energetic on the entire left flank for 90 minutes, too.
It’s worth highlighting there was a lovely balance on Chelsea’s left-hand side with Chilwell playing in front of Marc Cucurella, who impressed as a centre-back in a back three.
Chilwell celebrated Chelsea’s win on Tuesday night with a post on his official Instagram account.
“The Chelsea way!,” he wrote.
Mount responded with huge praise for his teammate: “What a performance chill dog!”
