Mason Mount has posted a message on Twitter after the Chelsea win against Newcastle to say “hopefully” he will be back from his illness in the next couple of days.
Chelsea continued their strong start to the season by brushing aside Newcastle 3-0 away from home.
Reece James (two) and Jorginho were both on the scoresheet in the second half, as the Blues pressure eventually paid off at St James’ Park.
Thomas Tuchel’s side extended their lead at the top of the league table to three points ahead of Liverpool, while Manchester City are a further two points back from them.
22-year-old Mount, who was absent against Newcastle through illness, posted a message on Twitter after the result. He hailed the display from teammates and gave an update on his fitness situation:
Mount news a relief
Thankfully, Mount has cleared up his absence today.
The English attacker was declared fit to play in Friday’s press conference, so it was a concern when he was absent from the match day squad at 2pm today.
There is a quick turnaround before Tuesday night’s Champions League match away to Malmo, so it’ll be intriguing to see if he can recover in time.

Chelsea Strength in depth crucial
If Chelsea are to stay in the conversation for the title, the strength of the squad is going to be pivotal.
They cruised to three points against Newcastle without the likes of Mount, Romelu Lukaku, Christian Pulisic and Timo Werner.
Tuchel’s in a position where he may need to prioritise league fixtures over cup games the longer they stay at the top of the table. Of course, it’s still relatively early just 10 matches in.
