Mbappe Trial
Kylian Mbappe once wore the blue of Chelsea. Albeit briefly. At the age of 11, PSG’s newest signing played in a match for the under-12s. Featuring alongside the likes of Tammy Abraham and Jeremie Boga, the 18-year-old remembers his brief time at Chelsea well.
“It was a wonderful experience, Chelsea was the first great club, the first big club, that I went to visit.
“So it was a real discovery for me. I was coming from my grassroots, amateur club. It was a whole new world.”
Since his week at Chelsea, Mbappe has become one of the world’s brightest prospects. He has recently joined PSG on a season-long loan from Monaco, with an obligation to buy for £165 million.
Mourinho Digs
Jose Mourinho has taken a swipe at his former side, and current boss Antonio Conte. The Portuguese, who was fired by Chelsea in December 2015, claims that his Chelsea side played better football than the side that won the Premier League last year.
“For me, let’s be honest and objective,
“The last three Premier League champions – Chelsea with Mourinho, Leicester with Ranieri, Chelsea with Conte. Which of these teams was the most offensive one?
“Which played more quality football? It was mine. But nobody says.”
Poor Business
Chelsea’s decision to sell Nemanja Matic to Premier League rivals Manchester United has been as described as the “worst” piece of business Ray Wilkins has ever seen at Stamford Bridge.
The Blues sold the Serbian midfielder to Old Trafford in a deal worth around £40 million, and former player Wilkins believes Chelsea have made a huge mistake in letting him leave.
“It’s the worst I’ve ever seen, if I can say. I cannot see that for the life of me.
“You’ve got a guy here who was so paramount to Chelsea along with N’Golo Kante in the middle of the pitch, winning the championship for Chelsea the year before and all of a sudden you’ve sold him to one of or the biggest rival we have.”
