Chelsea’s January transfer window took a sudden twist with Douglas Luiz rumours coming out of nowhere.
It was believed that Chelsea had set their sights on signing a centre-back, with talks for Jeremy Jacquet ongoing over a potential fee.
However, it now seems as if they’ve pivoted to a central midfielder due to Romeo Lavia and Dario Essugo’s situations at Chelsea.
Lavia’s return date is completely unknown, whilst Essugo had only just returned from injury, but is now out with a mysterious issue all of a sudden.
This has forced Chelsea into immediate action with a move for Douglas Luiz.

Douglas Luiz’s Europa League display rated by the Nottingham media
Nottingham Forest suffered a 1-0 loss to Braga in the Europa League on Thursday night.
Douglas Luiz played the full 90 minutes, but it wasn’t his best performance. He had a passing accuracy of 88.7%, won two tackles, made two interceptions, and had one shot.
The Nottingham Post had this to say.
‘Might this be the midfielder’s final appearance for the Reds, with Chelsea seemingly ready to push for him? No doubt he has class, but doubtful he did enough to convince Forest they should sign him permanently. Rating: 5/10’
Where does Douglas Luiz fit in at Chelsea?🤔
It would be a temporary deal…
Where does Douglas Luiz fit into Liam Rosenior’s side?
Douglas Luiz is a natural fit for Liam Rosenior’s tactical blueprint at Chelsea because he provides the calmness and peace on the ball that the Blues currently lack.
He would likely slot into the midfield rotation to ease the burden on Moises Caicedo and Enzo Fernandez, both of whom have played nearly every minute this season due to the ongoing injury issues.
One of the best things about Luiz is that he can play as a number six or a number eight, as well as the Premier League experience to be able to settle in quickly.
