Micah Richards says Chelsea would be 'scary' next season if they sign reported top target
Micah Richards said Thomas Tuchel has everything he needs from the Chelsea squad but signing Erling Haaland in the summer would transform them into a “scary team” next season.
Another win and another clean-sheet for the Blues under Tuchel after their 2-0 win over Sheffield United on Sunday.
It was their 12th clean-sheet in their 14-game unbeaten run since the new manager came in.
More impressively, Tuchel has proved that his team can be defensively solid regardless of who plays.
Against Sheffield United, Tuchel brought nine fresh faces into his starting XI, with only Kurt Zouma and Mateo Kovacic keeping their places from Wednesday’s win over Atletico Madrid.
But as Tuchel showcased during the game on Sunday, he could always rely on the quality he has on the bench when things go south.
The introduction of Hakim Ziyech who eventually doubled their lead in the second half, for example, or how Tuchel unleashed N’Golo Kante to tidy up the defence.
Richards seems to be impressed by Chelsea’s squad depth but still thinks there is one particular summer signing that would bring significant improvement.
“I think they’ve got absolutely everything,’ the former England international told the BBC after the game (via Daily Mail).
“They’ve sorted their defensive problems.
“The only thing to add that little bit of icing to the cake would be a striker.
“They’ve put [Timo] Werner in there, they’ve put [Kai] Havertz in there.
“It seems like they’ve not really cracked that offensive aspect of the game.
“I’m not going to speculate. If you put Haaland in this team, they’ll be scary next season.”
Well, to be fair, a player like Haaland would make any team scary considering his goalscoring rate this season.
According to The Athletic, Chelsea are determined to sign a top striker in the summer and the Norway international is the player they want.
The problem is that Chelsea are definitely not the only interested parties, with several other top clubs hoping to sign him this summer.
