Chelsea spent a lot of money to bring him in, however his price tag is the last thing anyone is talking about when it comes to the club’s record signing.

Moises Caicedo is enjoying a tremendous campaign at Stamford Bridge, with him easily one of the first names on the teamsheet.

Jason Cundy even thinks Caicedo is more important to Chelsea than Cole Palmer, despite the England international averaging a goal involvement every single game.

Moises Caicedo names N’golo Kante and Claude Makelele as inspirations

It has been easy for pundits and supporters alike to compare the performances of the Ecuador international to those of N’golo Kante, with him being one of the best midfielders the Premier League has ever seen.

Caicedo himself has played down comparisons to Kante recently, however has named him as one of the two former Chelsea players he looks up to.

In an interview with the Chelsea website, he also named Claude Makelele as an inspiration despite never actually watching the Frenchman live.

He said: “I always supported Chelsea because N’Golo Kante played for Chelsea and he was my inspiration – he and Claude Makelele. I didn’t watch Makelele live but I would watch videos of him. I grew up watching them and they were my inspiration to become a professional player.”

Caicedo could be set for position change at Chelsea

Caicedo has regularly played at the heart of midfield for the Blues this season, however has occasionally found himself having to shift to right-back to accommodate the likes of Enzo Fernandez and Romeo Lavia.

Maresca admitted that he could utilise Caicedo in that position more often, with him seeming the perfect player to invert in the manager’s system.

The dream scenario would see Reece James starting every week, however his injury nightmares have continued into this season.

The England international is back in partial team training, and is set to make his return in early 2025.
