Moises Caicedo shares what he did in February to improve his performances at Chelsea

One of the most improved players from the start to the finish of last season was actually their most expensive signing in history.

Moises Caicedo joined with a lot of fanfare last summer as the missing piece to their midfield, however things did not get off to the best start.

He became one of the most important players on the pitch towards the end of the season, when he was playing in a duo alongside Conor Gallagher.

The Ecuador international has recently been questioned about what was the reason for his drastic improvements for the club.

He told Alfonso Laso (as transcribed by Perro Chelsea): “Since February my agent hired a person who reviews my matches and what I have to improve, how to position myself and mentally.

“It’s helped take pressure off me because I was thinking more about ‘they paid a lot of money for me I have to perform well.

“I wasn’t focused, not showing my level, after my agent hired that person, I started to improve and gain more confidence.”

Competition for midfield places at Chelsea

It remains to be seen what configuration of midfielders new manager Enzo Maresca decides to go with when things get underway for him at Stamford Bridge.

The Italian reportedly has a plan in place to get the best out of Enzo Fernandez, something many have been calling for some time now.

It is fair to say that Caicedo’s best performances last season came when the World Cup winner was not alongside him, which is an issue for when both cost over £100m.

The Blues have already added to their midfield depth with the addition of Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, a player Maresca already has plenty of experience working with.

Another player who will be hoping to have far more of an impact next season is Romeo Lavia, after injuries restricted him to just one appearance last time out.

The Belgian was brought in with plenty of excitement for the coming seasons, and he will be looking to show why immediately as pre-season is about to get underway.
