Fabrizio Romano has claimed that Chelsea are monitoring Valencia goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvil.

He said on Twitter that the Georgian is expected to be on the move at the end of the season despite only recently signing a contract extension with his current club.

The goalkeeper position at Stamford Bridge has come under plenty of scrutiny this season under every manager who has come through so far.

Edouard Mendy started the season in goal, and despite a few errors featured in goal for the entirety of Thomas Tuchel’s brief spell.

Injuries saw Kepa Arrizabalaga handed a chance for new manager Graham Potter, and a string of very impressive performances saw him maintain his place in the team.

Despite previous problems with interim boss Frank Lampard, it seems like the Spain international has his backing ahead of tonight’s crucial Champions League game against Real Madrid.

Chelsea linked with Mamardashvili

The backing from whoever has been in charge has not resulted in perfection between the sticks though. A number of big errors are still being made that are costing the Blues goals.

This could explain why they are looking around for new options to fill the role, with Romano claiming that Mamardashvil is one name they have been monitoring.

He said: “Georgian goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili, expected to leave Valencia in any case at the end of the season despite contract extension signed few months ago.

“Told Chelsea and Tottenham are just monitoring his development; Leicester met with his agent 10 days ago.”

A number of other names have been reportedly touted for the role, with it almost certain that investment is made this summer in the position.

David Raya is not set to sign a new contract across West London at Brentford, and is one of a few who have been linked to Stamford Bridge.
