Late on Tuesday night, Chelsea confirmed the record signing of Morgan Rogers from Aston Villa. The timing was surprising, as was the dig Rogers sent in Arsenal’s direction.
The 23-year-old England star has become the fourth-most-expensive transfer of all time after completing a £117m move to Stamford Bridge, putting pen to paper on a club-record move to Chelsea until 2033.
Where would this Chelsea team finish? 👀
Now the most-expensive Englishman, outdoing Elliot Anderson’s £116m move to Man City, Rogers has officially become Chelsea’s second signing of the Xabi Alonso era, after Marco Palestra’s Chelsea move.
Chelsea managed to secure Rogers’ signature, having fended off competition from Arsenal, while Man United and PSG were also interested. Rogers and Chelsea played on that in their announcement.
Chelsea are the biggest club in London, according to Rogers
For months, it has been Arsenal or Chelsea for Rogers. For that reason, it was believed that Rogers would pick Arsenal given they have just won the Premier League and qualified for the Champions League.

Yet, out of nowhere on Saturday, Chelsea secured Rogers’ signature. A move that sees Rogers reunite with best pal Cole Palmer. In Chelsea’s announcement video, Rogers says he’s joining London’s biggest club.
“I’m joining the biggest club in London. The way the club wants to go, and how it wants to move forward, it’s something I want to be a part of and I think it was just perfect for me,” Rogers said in the video.
When will Morgan Rogers face Arsenal in a Chelsea shirt?
Typically, the two sides do battle early on in the Premier League season. Chelsea take on Fulham on the opening day, in which Xabi Alonso and Alvaro Arbeloa do battle in a West London derby on August 24.
With his best mate Morgan Rogers announced, how many goals and assists does Cole Palmer get this season?👀
The third Premier League game of the season sees Chelsea face Arsenal at The Emirates. With Rogers having picked Chelsea over Arsenal, the build-up to the game will be centred around the £117m man.
For now, Rogers will be enjoying some downtime after playing a key role for England in their World Cup campaign. But he is expected to join Chelsea’s squad after their trip to Australia, which starts this week.
