Mason Mount’s father said his son “really likes” Thomas Tuchel and believes the new Chelsea manager can help him develop as a player.
Less than two months ago, there were still some theory that the 22-year-old only started week in week out at Chelsea due to favouritism towards.
Frank Lampard even had to respond to the accusations multiple times, including explaining why he relied on Mount so much back in October.
The England international’s father, Tony, described these claims as “a load of rubbish”.
“You’re telling me Lampard picked a player 80 times because he likes him and he’s a nice lad?” he told talkSPORT.
“He’s there to win football matches.
“He had a trust and a relationship, Frank knew what he was about. That was the foundation at Derby, and it carried on at Chelsea.”
A new manager has now taken over the reigns and Mount is still a regular starter — which makes the ‘teacher’s pet’ theory sounds even more silly.
Mount started in eight of Chelsea’s 11-game unbeaten run under Tuchel and has been their most prolific goalscorer (three goals) during the period.
Tony said Mount is keen to improve under the German.
“Tuchel is building a relationship with him now and Mason really likes him,” he added.
“He thinks [Tuchel] is going to add something to his game and make him a better player, just like Frank.”

With his versatility and work rate on the pitch, it is easy to see why Mount is one of the first names on managers’ team sheets.
His natural fitness is another talent that makes him so valuable to the team.
It is incredible how he has made 137 appearances in all club competitions since the start of 2018/19 season — playing roughly 50 games a season including international matches.
