Gary Lineker reacted on Twitter to say Chelsea were “much the better side” in their victory against Tottenham in the Premier League
Chelsea returned to winning ways in the league by securing a convincing 2-0 win at Stamford Bridge.
Hakim Ziyech’s stunner from outside the box early in the second half gave the Blues a deserved lead. Afterwards, defender Thiago Silva headed in from Mason Mount’s free-kick to double the advantage and help wrap up three points.
It’s been a tough run of results lately in the league, so to pick up three points to help consolidate third was vital. They are now 10 points ahead of fifth-placed West Ham, albeit they’ve played a game more. Thomas Tuchel’s men can feel a little safer in the top four after a win, though.
Lineker offered his instant reaction on social media following Chelsea’s win in the derby game:
“Well, it’s hard to say Chelsea didn’t deserve that victory. Much the better side and a stunning goal from Ziyech,” Lineker wrote.

Chelsea dominate Spurs
Yes, it was only 2-0 on the scoreline. However, it was another game between Chelsea and Spurs where the former were on top for the majority of the 90 minutes.
Antonio Conte’s Spurs arrived at the Bridge with a defensive set up meant to stifle their opponents, something that did work in stages. The visitors are aggrieved Harry Kane’s first half goal was ruled out for a push on Thiago Silva, too.
There was just too much class from Chelsea in the second half when they moved the ball quickly around the opponent’s box.
It’s interesting to see Tuchel use four at the back more commonly in the last few weeks, and it’s something that makes a lot more sense when they’ve not got Ben Chilwell and Reece James to dominate from the wing-back positions.
It looks like it’s a system getting the best out of Hakim Ziyech as well.
