Gary Neville has approved of Thomas Tuchel’s takeover at Chelsea and says that his presence will improve the Premier League.

Talking on the Gary Neville Podcast, the former Manchester United defender admitted that the arrival of another quality manager would only benefit the league as a whole.

“I was critical on this podcast a few years about the quality in the Premier League,” he said.

“However, the minute Jurgen Klopp, Mauricio Pochettino, Jose Mourinho, Pep Guardiola, now we’ve got a new coach at Chelsea. When you bring the level of coaching, the quality rises.

“Irrespective if we’ve got the biggest transfer fee. The quality of coaching rises. The quality of the player rises. The addition of top-quality coaches should be the absolute must.

“Seeing Thomas Tuchel come into the Premier League is a welcome addition, not at the expense of Frank Lampard, but we want to see great coaches because it really does lift the game in this country.”

Lampard was replaced by Tuchel a week ago and the 47-year-old has already taken charge of two league games.

A draw at home to Wolverhampton Wanderers and a solid victory over Burnley has set Chelsea on the right path under their new coach.

Tuchel won six trophies with his previous employees Paris Saint Germain and lead the French side to their maiden Champions League final.

He also guided Borussia Dortmund to glory in the German Cup, so his CV was pretty well stacked before he came to England.

Chelsea’s next match is an intriguing London Derby away to Tottenham Hotspur that pits Tuchel against his first of the aforementioned elite managers in Mourinho.

He will have to wait until March to face Klopp and a further two months to get to grips with Guardiola. When they do come around, the showdowns should be seismic.

You can already see that Chelsea’s levels have been raised since Tuchel landed at Chelsea.

I know there are question marks over whether he can cut it in the Premier League and the best proof for that will be when he faces the likes of Klopp and Guardiola.
