Chelsea supporters were over the moon when they heard that Thiago Silva might be increasing his current contract beyond the summer.
Fabrizio Romano reported that an extension would be activated at the same economic conditions as his present agreement and that Chelsea wanted him to remain at Stamford Bridge next season.

Silva has been a fine addition to the Blues back-line after his arrival from Paris Saint Germain on a free transfer last August.
He has played 17 Premier League games this term with Chelsea keeping nine clean sheets in that period.
His experience has been priceless both on and off the pitch. Blues fans wanted to see more from the Brazilian and insisted he signed a new deal.
Thomas Tuchel has a prior association with Silva, following a successful two-year period together at PSG where they won multiple Ligue 1 titles and reached the Champions League final.
This positive relationship may be a key bargaining chip in keeping the central defender around for a little while longer in London.
It is now down to the player and his party whether or not he sticks around for one last hurrah. Silva turns 37 in September and legs may be running on empty by then.
A thigh injury picked up against Tottenham Hotspur was a slight hint that cracks were beginning show. However, Chelsea and Silva himself clearly feel he has so much more to give.
The Chelsea Chronicle View
Silva has been a great presence for the dressing room and its no doubt he has improved Chelsea’s defence.
I am hesitant about this new contract offer. Is it worth holding onto him when the club have outstanding defenders like Marc Guehi still on their books?
