Nicolas Jackson helped Chelsea to beat Brentford 2-1 in Sunday’s west London derby between the two sides.

In the 80th minute, Nicolas Jackson scored to make it 2-0 before Bryan Mbeumo netted a consolation goal 10 minutes later.

It was Jackson’s ninth goal of the season, leaving him just outside the Premier League’s top five scorers. However, the forward had a great chance to find the back of the net before his strike, something that he has since spoken about.

There was one moment during the game where former Chelsea defender Jason Cundy compared Jackson to Didier Drogba.

It was a huge opportunity that Jackson squandered in the second half, with the 23-year-old practically having an open net to fire into.

However, Jackson did not let it get him down and says he knew that he would get another big chance.

“I missed that one but I was thinking I’ll get another one and try to score to help the team win,” the Senegal international was quoted as saying by BBC Sport after the game. “I did exactly that.”

Jackson was upset after failing to score against Tottenham Hotspur, but he can be happy now after bagging a crucial goal versus Brentford.

Jackson has described Chelsea’s victory over Brentford as a “very big win” because of how difficult it is to play against Thomas Frank’s men.

Last season, Chelsea lost the same fixture 2-0 before drawing 2-2 at the Gtech Community Stadium.

On his side’s triumph over their west London rivals, he said: “Very big win. Not an easy game. They’re a difficult side to play against. It was difficult because they always play set-pieces. But we won. I’m very happy.”

Chelsea’s next Premier League fixture will be another game where they will be tasked with having to break down a very defensive set-up.

Enzo Maresca‘s men travel to Goodison Park on Sunday to take on Everton, who managed to frustrate Arsenal over the weekend after holding the Gunners to a 0-0 draw.

Chelsea’s attackers, the likes of Jackson and Palmer, will have to be at their best if the Blues are to return to Stamford Bridge with all three points.
