Chelsea followers were left feeling relieved they didn’t manage to sign Dayot Upamecano after seeing his dodgy display last night for RB Leipzig.
Liverpool landed a massive blow to the Germans Champions League hopes with a 2-0 victory during their first leg clash in Budapest.
Upamecano was making his maiden appearance for Leipzig since the news arose that he would be joining Bayern Munich in the summer for £38m (BBC Sport).
He had been linked with Liverpool, the side he lost to yesterday, Manchester United and Chelsea (Guardian).
The Blues had targeted the talented 22-year-old as a potential centre-back option for them next season.
Munich managed to get their way with Upamecano but Chelsea fans weren’t too bothered having witnessed his latest performance against Liverpool.
His first half against Liverpool was especially damaging.
Leipzig’s central defender relinquished possession on several occasions and didn’t look his typically assured self.
Perhaps the major move to Munich was playing on his mind. The Bundesliga behemoths brought in Upamecano as a replacement for the departing David Alaba.
They are big boots to fill for a young man who won’t have impressed his new suitors upon this latest evidence.

Having missed out on one potential defensive option, Chelsea may have to turn towards the other shortlisted names.
90min reported an offer had already been put in for Alaba from the Londoners. A response from either party is yet to surface.

That really wasn’t a great dress rehearsal, was it!?
I think dodging a bullet might be slightly extreme, but what do they say about first impressions?
Never mind, we’ll just have to sign Alaba or Raphael Varane instead…
