Norwich City midfielder Kenny McLean said he would try to convince young Chelsea midfielder and his Scotland teammate Billy Gilmour over a loan spell at Carrow Road.

A few days ago, The Athletic reported that Gilmour is expected to spend the 2021/22 season on loan in pursuit of more regular game time.

The report also mentioned Norwich as one of the clubs interested in the 20-year-old and have monitored the young midfielder for quite some time.

A loan spell at Norwich who just got promoted to the Premier League certainly does not sound like a bad idea.

But some people, including Sky Sports pundit Graeme Souness, have argued that staying at Chelsea and being surrounded by top midfielders would actually be more beneficial for Gilmour despite the limited game time.

Both Chelsea and Gilmour still have plenty of time to make a decision. Ideally, though, a final decision would be made before the pre-season, whether that with Chelsea or his potential new loan club.

Recently, Gilmour’s Scotland teammate McLean insisted that a season at Norwich would suit the young midfielder.

“I wouldn’t mind seeing Billy at Norwich,” he told the Daily Record.

“Billy would fit into our style of play, the way we try to build from the back.

“That suits him perfectly and getting a full season in the Premier League would benefit him.

“I’m sure he could stay at Chelsea and get minutes. But if he comes to us for a season in a good team playing in the way he wants – it’s a no-brainer.

“I don’t know where it’s at, but I’ll speak to him at some stage.

“I definitely think it would suit both parties if it happens.”
