‘Not achieved’: 23-year-old who left Chelsea this summer now admits he wasn’t good enough last season

Joao Felix has admitted that he was not able to play at a good level during his time at Chelsea.

The Atletico Madrid forward, who is now at Barcelona for the season, spent the second half of the last campaign on loan at Chelsea.

However, things did not exactly go to plan for Joao Felix and the 23-year-old has since admitted to Goal and other publications that he has struggled to perform recently.

He is finding his feet again at Barcelona, though, scoring three goals in his first eight appearances for the club.

Felix has not shied away from the fact that he has not been great in the last few seasons.

“As you can see, I’m happy where I am, I feel good, confident and I feel like I’m going through a good moment,” the Portuguese attacker was quoted as saying by Goal. “The most difficult thing is to maintain a good level, something that I have not achieved for some time in recent seasons.

“But I work every day and I always try to improve to correct those less positive aspects of myself. And yes, I am happy and going through a good time.”

Felix was able to score just four goals during his short time at Chelsea, who went on to finish 12th in the Premier League table last term.

In total, Felix has made 202 appearances in his senior club career and scored 61 goals.

Ultimately, the Portugal international is quite a dangerous forward, but we have not always seen that.

Is having a pragmatic manager like Diego Simeone to blame? Perhaps, but Felix just needs to move on now, which he seems to be doing. It will now be interesting to see if Barcelona end up buying the player.

As for Chelsea, they now have Christopher Nkunku in their ranks. While the France international has obviously been out injured, he takes up similar positions to Felix on the pitch.
