Pat Nevin has admitted he’s still “not convinced” by the officiating decision that went against Chelsea in Sunday’s Carabao Cup final defeat to Liverpool.
The Blues ended up losing via penalties, but there were some golden opportunities for each side to win it during both the 90 minutes and extra-time.
In particular, Chelsea substitute Romelu Lukaku had an excellent goal chalked off by VAR during the first half of extra time.
He was deemed to be marginally in front of Liverpool’s Virgil van Dijk, albeit there has been a lot of anger around social media about the lines drawn to determine offside.
Nevin falls into the category of someone frustrated by the refereeing decision.
“Though to be honest I would probably have refused to do the after-match analysis if they didn’t show the Lukaku offside decision. I am still not fully convinced VAR got that one right,” Nevin said.

Lukaku robbed of much-needed Chelsea boost
Unfortunately, Lukaku had a Wembley moment snatched away from him in cruel fashion at the weekend.
The 28-year-old needs something to kick him back into career and get him back in the good books of his manager Thomas Tuchel.
It was an eye-catching contribution from the Belgian centre-forward against Liverpool off the bench, as he showed what he can offer with his pace and power.
However, Kai Havertz’s recent performances as the central striker mean the German should be in the best XI right now.
A Havertz-Lukaku combination has proven to work, and both were on the pitch together on Sunday.
It’s going to be interesting to see how Tuchel uses Lukaku in the upcoming games.
