Journalist Dean Jones has claimed that Chelsea have made a mistake by only adding Nicolas Jackson as a striker this summer.

He told GiveMeSport that the Senegal international is not going to be the answer to the club’s goalscoring woes that they currently have.

Jackson has started every Premier League game so far this season, however has only contributed one goal during that time.

He has been responsible for missing a heap of chances, include a glaring one at home to Nottingham Forest when 1-0 down.

The Blues elected against signing another recognised striker later in the window, instead preferring the versatile option of Cole Palmer to play along the attack.

Chelsea told Jackson not the answer

Jones has criticised this decision, claiming that his inability to score is causing a big problem at Stamford Bridge.

He said: “I’ve said for a long time that Chelsea have made a mistake by only signing Nicolas Jackson in terms of a striker. I don’t believe that he is enough of a guarantee of goals that Chelsea need for this season.

“And I’ve said it since the day he came through the door. He’s a good signing, but he’s not the answer and everything I’ve seen so far just proves that. Again, the narrative is still that he’s a good player, he’s good off the ball, he has nice touches and all of that is true, but he’s not scoring goals.

“And while he’s getting in good areas, he’s still not converting the chances or the half chances and that’s a big problem.”

With Armando Broja still not back to full fitness, it is likely that Jackson continues in the side when they take on Aston Villa on Sunday.
