Chelsea themselves have now hinted that one player is now in line to make his first start of the season in tonight’s EFL Cup tie.

The 5th Stand App stated that Benoit Badiashile could be brought in tonight as one of the changes to the squad for the match against Blackburn.

Badiashile is yet to register a minute on the pitch this season for the Blues following an injury sustained at the back-end of the prior campaign.

When Frank Lampard said at the time that he would be out for a little while, it was not expected that we would be nearly six months down the line without seeing the Frenchman in action again.

His absence has hit hard too, in a time where centre-backs have struggled with injuries for quite a while.

This has seen Thiago Silva, now 39 years of age, play every Premier League game this season, something Mauricio Pochettino was almost certainly not expecting to be the case.

Chelsea app hints at Badiashile start

However, the app have now hinted that the cup match tonight could see the Frenchman brought in as one of a number of changes.

It said: “Captain Reece James is a confirmed starter and the likes of goalie Djordje Petrovic, Benoit Badiashile, Ian Maatsen or Lesley Ugochukwu may replace those who’ve had a heavier recent workload.”

Badiashile has impressed greatly when fit ever since his £35m signing back in January.

There is a lot of hope in the fanbase that he can be part of a long-term defensive partnership with Levi Colwill, despite the duo both being left-footed.

Tonight could be the first time we see what could end up being a legendary defensive unit.
