It has been claimed that Chelsea midfielder N’golo Kante is on the verge of signing a new contract with the club.

Journalist Florian Plettenberg has stated that talks have continued to go well with both parties, and he is now set to stay beyond this season.

For a long time, the France international looked set to be leaving the club at the end of this campaign after 7 years at Stamford Bridge.

This would have combined with the loss of Jorginho at the end of the season, with him showing no ambition to sign a new deal.

He was eventually sold in January as the Blues strengthened in midfield by bringing in Enzo Fernandez for a club-record fee.

Despite being injured since August last year, the loss of Kante would be felt hard, with his impact when fit unmatched by the majority of players in world football.

Now though, Chelsea are set to receive the boost of the two-time Premier League winner committing his future to the West London club, where he has already achieved legendary status.

Plettenberg said: “News on Kante: Understand that he’s on verge to extend his contract! Chelsea bosses want him to stay.

“Talks with the player’s management are going well. Clear tendency at this stage: Kante will stay beyond this season!”

There will be hopes amongst supporters that the midfield partnership of Fernandez and Kante can be seen soon, with the Frenchman finally being back in the matchday squad for the last Premier League game.

This will be important for when the Champions League returns, as they take on Real Madrid for a place in the semi-finals.

With Kante producing some of the best displays of his career against the current holders of the competition, his presence alone will bring a new aura to the Blues.
