Chelsea star Mason Mount was in action last night during England’s impressive World Cup qualifying victory against Hungary.
Gareth Southgate’s Three Lions took total control of their qualifying group with an eye-catching 4-0 away win in front of a hostile Hungary crowd.
England had to be patient in getting past their defensive opponents, but a breakthrough came in the 55th minute through Sterling. Attacking midfielder Mount grabbed himself an assist with a perfect pull-back for Sterling inside the penalty box.
Harry Kane, Harry Maguire and Declan Rice all got themselves on the scoresheet afterwards to highlight the dominance of the visitors.
Mount received widespread praise across various national media outlets last night after his England performance.
The 22-year-old attacking star played in a central number 10 position behind the forward, however, he often found himself the furthest man forward with skipper Kane dropping deep.

The Daily Mail wrote: “His quality on the ball was there for all to see again. Unlocked the door for England’s first and had a hand in their second. 8/10.”
The Telegraph said: “Not easy to find space against a home team allergic to the halfway line. Like Grealish, he oozed class for the opening Sterling goal. Still more to come from him in an England shirt. 7/10.”
Sky Sports reported: “Involvement in two of England’s three goals was fitting reward for Mason Mount’s energetic efforts in Hungary. The Chelsea man pushed right up onto the Hungarian defensive line when England had the ball early on and linked up frequently with Jack Grealish on the left side, with that combination allowing Mount to cut back for Sterling to score before he helped the ball onto the Man City man to tee up Kane for number three. You can see why he’s a Southgate favourite. 7/10.”
Mason Mount shows flexibility
Mount’s become so effective in recent times for Chelsea operating in Thomas Tuchel’s 3-4-2-1 system behind a central striker.
The Blues ace mixed his game up at times on Thursday night in England’s 4-2-3-1 formation, but there was so much to like about his display.
As always, he ran his socks off with plenty of pace and energy in the opponents half. He combined that with a touch of quality for Sterling’s goal. Also, he provided the pre-assist in the build-up to the second.
There are some superstar names in the England squad, though, so the pressure is on him to perform each game.
It was another performance that justified his selection.
