Chelsea loanee Bashir Humphreys delivered a top performance last night during Swansea City’s 2-1 win against Norwich City in the Championship.

That is according to local media in Swansea.

Chelsea youngster Bashir Humphreys, who’s just 20, completed a season-long loan move to Swansea in the summer.

The ball-playing centre-back has now managed to play himself into the starting line-up at his new club, which is a position we don’t imagine he’ll give up for the rest of the campaign.

The early signs are that the Championship division is providing an excellent learning ground for yet another emerging Chelsea talent.

Local media was left blown away by the individual performance from Humphreys against Norwich on Wednesday night.

The defender was the match-winner with his first ever goal in senior football. He chested the ball in a crowded box during a set-piece before firing in his 83rd minute volley to earn Swansea three league points

Wales Online wrote: “Proved the hero as he picked an incredible moment to score his first goal in senior football and grab the winner. The Chelsea loanee’s fierce effort gave Gunn no chance, but he impressed throughout the game, oozing confidence on the ball as he gave another performance beyond his years. 8/10 (star man).”

We’re not too surprised to hear Humphreys start well in the second division.

The Chelsea academy graduate impressed during pre-season with the Blues senior team, even making an appearance in the Carabao Cup before his loan move went through late in the summer.

The Evening Standard previously reported that Chelsea boss Mauricio Pochettino was thinking about keeping Humphreys in his squad this year after he impressed him during the summer. However, we think this time playing regular men’s football out on loan will be so valuable for his development.

Incidentally, Omari Hutchinson at Ipswich Town is another Chelsea loanee making a name for himself in the Championship this year.
