Fikayo Tomori has struggled for opportunities in recent weeks. Despite securing a starting spot in the early season, the 22-year-old has fallen out of favour and has made just 14 Premier League appearances. However, he impressed during the Blues 2-1 win against Hull in the FA Cup and deserves a regular spot in the side.

Lampard has struggled to find consistency in his defence this season. Injuries have played their part, but the young manager does not seem certain of his best centre-back pairing. Andreas Christensen, Antonio Rudiger, and Kurt Zouma are all competing alongside Tomori for a starting spot.

Each option has had their moments this season but it is now time to trust in Tomori. The young English defender is back to full fitness after an injury problem and put in a commanding display against Hull on Saturday evening. He scored what turned out to be the winning goal and was awarded the man of the match award.

Tomori boasted a pass completion rate of 95% against the club he was on loan at during the 2017-18 season. He also won four out of five ground duels and made a total of three tackles. A performance like that will do wonders for his confidence and could see him start a great run of form.

It could be a big end to the season for the promising defender. After making his senior England debut in November, he will be hoping for a place in Gareth Southgate’s squad for the European Championships in the summer. He will need to be playing regular football to ensure his place.

Lampard has a big decision to make for the Blues game against Leicester. It will be interesting to see if Tomori keeps his place, and if he does, who is partnered alongside him.
