Darren Ambrose has raved about the quality of Morocco star Sofyan Amrabat, who’s reportedly a transfer target for Chelsea.

Fiorentina midfielder Amrabat has been one of the major breakout stars at the World Cup this winter.

The 26-year-old has impressed in the past couple of years with Italian side Fiorentina, but his reputation has soared to new heights based off the last few weeks.

He’s an all-action defensive midfielder that’s been integral at the World Cup for Morocco, who were beaten semi-finalists against France. The Africans do play again on Saturday in the third place play-off match against Croatia, though.

Chelsea target Sofyan Amrabat

The Daily Mail claimed earlier this week that Chelsea have set their sights on Amrabat as a potential target.

Also, the report names Tottenham, Liverpool, West Ham, Newcastle and Atletico Madrid all as rival buyers.

He’s still under contract with Serie A club Fiorentina until 2024, but will teams be convinced to splash out for him based on some World Cup masterclasses?

On paper, the £30,000-a-week enforcer does look tailor-made to do well in the Premier League with his physicality and incredible engine.

Ambrose in awe

TalkSPORT pundit Ambrose is a massive admirer of the Chelsea target.

In fact, he’s even made the extremely kind comparison to current Blues midfielder N’Golo Kante.

“He’s in a similar mould to Kante,” Ambrose told talkSPORT.

“I think he’s been outstanding. The tackle on [Kylian] Mbappe the other day was sensational.

“He says he’s happy [at Fiorentina] so whether a big European side or a big English Premier League can get him to come and sign for them, I’m sure they can. He has shown now that he can compete at the top level and I think he’ll want to prove that even more.”
