'Outstanding': Thomas Tuchel says £100k-a-week Chelsea player is playing absolutely brilliantly right now

Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel has given huge praise to Antonio Rudiger for how he’s performing recently.

Rudiger, 28, is a popular topic of discussion around Stamford Bridge right now because his Chelsea contract expires at the end of the season.

The £100,000-a-week defender continues to be a key performer for the Blues each week, though.

Paris Saint-Germain and Bayern Munich are reportedly keen on the centre-back, with foreign clubs now free to negotiate terms with him given he’s into the final six months of his deal.

Tuchel has said in his latest press conference that Rudiger is still playing so well, despite all the speculation circling about his future.

“I know, or I assume, he is very aware of what I demand from him (Rudiger), and how I appreciate to work with him,” Tuchel said.

“The level on which he’s playing is still super high and outstanding and there are no doubts that the [contract] situation is a concern for that.”

How to fill Rudiger void at Chelsea?

If he leaves, Rudiger will be leaving a mammoth hole in the Chelsea XI.

The centre-half is a nailed-on starter on the left of the back three and his consistent performances deserve a special mention.

His aggression and athleticism makes him a real fan favourite, plus he’s always showing positive intent with the ball at his feet.

The facts are it’s going to be very difficult finding a replacement if they need one because there aren’t many defenders that play on the edge like him.

Chelsea supporters will be clinging on to hope he stays to avoid such a problem. However, they may need to brace themselves for losing a huge part of their aggression from the side.
