Gabby Agbonlahor anticipated a Tottenham Hotspur triumph across the two Carabao Cup semi-final legs against Chelsea.
Speaking on talkSPORT, the former Aston Villa striker backed Spurs to edge out their capital city adversary.
Chelsea or Tottenham?
Purely based on the side’s current form, Tottenham are in a better position to reach the showpiece event at Wembley than Thomas Tuchel’s men.
Antonio Conte is undefeated in his first eight Premier League games in charge of the North London club, winning five of those.
Meanwhile, Chelsea have just three wins from their previous nine top-flight outings.
Tuchel has been forced to battle a constant cycle of injuries and covid in the past few months, causing a derailing of any challenge to Manchester City’s crown.
Now, the German manager has another headache to contend with.
Romelu Lukaku’s eye-opening interview with Sky Italia created a mini-crisis around Stamford Bridge that very easily could’ve been avoided.
As it’s transpired, the overriding storyline heading into tonight’s first semi-final fixture is the possible return of Lukaku to the matchday squad.
Spurs sizing up their chance
Whilst Chelsea’s attentions are being directed elsewhere, Tottenham must sense a wonderful opportunity to claim silverware for the first time since 2008.
“The pressure of Spurs not winning a trophy in so long, Antonio Conte will know this. He will want to put that right,” said Agbonlahor.
“Mourinho went close to putting that right before he got sacked before the final.
“So, Conte will go into this game with his strongest team.
“Chelsea might make a few changes, but I see Spurs with their strongest team. So, I’m going to go Spurs favourites over two legs.”
Tuchel takes on Conte
If Spurs could’ve picked any coach to guide them to success, Conte’s name probably finished high on the list (hence why they hired him!)
He won four Serie A titles with Juventus and Inter Milan, not to mention the Premier League and FA Cup whilst in charge of Chelsea.
The Italian is a born winner, who knows how to handle the big occasions.
Tuchel is relatively new to the trophy game, having picked up his first major title in 2017.
Now with a Champions League and Super Cup under his belt, the taste for glory is thicker than ever before.
Being triumphant in the League Cup will put a green tick next to his name, although the ultimate goal remains slightly out of reach right now.
