Blues icon Pat Nevin was full of praise for Chelsea’s new signing Mykhailo Mudryk and his debut performance in Saturday’s goalless draw with Liverpool at Anfield.
The 22-year-old was only on the pitch for just over half an hour but still managed to leave quite an impression in his first appearance for Chelsea.
The former Shakhtar Donetsk star started several goalscoring chances for the visitors and was very close to scoring himself.
He completed two out of three attempted dribbles, as expected from someone who is known for his ability in taking on opponents, and displayed his defensive work rate by registering three tackles and one clearance.
Nevin was clearly impressed by the Ukraine international’s performance.
“Mudryk… on the left side, we’re alright for the next seven years,” the former Scotland international told Chelsea’s Matchday Live.
“Look, he missed a couple of chances, [but] he got it in those positions, and that’s what was really fantastic.
“Yes, he’s got both the speed and the technique.
“Not that many got that level at both.
“He’s fabulous and we’re going to love watching him.”
If that was Mudryk’s debut performance, imagine what he would be capable of when he finally had the time to adapt to his new teammates.
His pace and ability to operate in tight spaces were outstanding, obviously, but his playmaking should not be overlooked.
As Nevin pointed out, Chelsea might have found their main left winger for the considerable future.
