Chelsea have started the season with just a third defeat on the opening weekend in Premier League history.
The Blues were beaten 2-0 by Manchester City, with the champions ultimately proving too good for Enzo Maresca’s side.
Supporters will have left Stamford Bridge looking for positives, and will likely have found them in the performance of Romeo Lavia.
Fans took to social media to praise Lavia for his performance in what was his first competitive start for Chelsea since joining last summer.
With no new signings named in the starting side, there was a chance for Robert Sanchez to make his mark between the sticks.
Robert Sanchez made ‘world-class’ save for Chelsea
There was a moment in the first half where he made a superb save to deny Jeremy Doku from range.
Pat Nevin was really impressed with what he saw from the goalkeeper, describing the save as ‘world-class’.
He said to BBC Sport: “That is a world-class save from Sanchez and he made it look good. It’s the swerve on the ball that made it so good.”
Sanchez struggled for Chelsea
The game did not end up too well for the Spaniard, with fingers pointed to him after Mateo Kovacic found the net late in the second half.
Romeo Lavia was spotted having a go at Sanchez too after a poor pass out from the back put Chelsea in an extremely dangerous scenario just after half-time.
It is fair to say that the goalkeeper has not impressed since his £25m move from Brighton, and strengthening is something the club have looked to do in the transfer window.
Filip Jorgensen was on the bench after joining in the summer, and he will no doubt be looking to fight for a place in the side as the season goes on.
With fixtures in Europe and domestically coming thick and fast for the Blues in the coming weeks, supporters will no doubt want to see the younger option given a chance to prove he should be the goalkeeper trusted with the regular first team role.
