Chelsea will win big against Southampton tomorrow, according to Paul Merson.

The Blues host Southampton on Saturday afternoon in a Premier League fixture, with both teams absolutely desperate for three points.

Graham Potter’s Chelsea side are on a run of three consecutive draws in the league, which is why they are languishing in mid-table.

As for Southampton, who recently sacked Nathan Jones as their manager, they sit rock bottom of the table in the thick of a relegation battle.

Pundit Paul Merson has given a 3-0 score prediction in Chelsea’s favour against Southampton.

He highlights the Blues performance on Wednesday against Borussia Dortmund as a reason for them to be optimistic.

“Chelsea haven’t got a number nine. They were outstanding from box to box against Borussia Dortmund, but they couldn’t score a goal. It doesn’t matter how much you spend and how many players you buy – you’ve got to put the ball in the back of the net. That’s always been the name of the game,” Merson told Sportskeeda.

“Southampton are also yet to find their manager, and that’s unbelievable for a Premier League. Chelsea will find their feet in the Premier League sooner or later, and they should be able to win this game.”

Southampton actually won the reverse fixture against Chelsea earlier this season 2-1 at St Mary’s, so they should take some confidence into the weekend.

Potter’s side may be completely goal-shy at this moment in time, but the difference is they’re now starting to create a lot of opportunities in front of goal.

Despite losing 1-0 to Borussia Dortmund in midweek, Chelsea put in the kind of Champions League performance that will encourage plenty of the fanbase.

There may be a potential boost to the side, too. The Daily Mail claims that Raheem Sterling is eyeing a return from his knee injury this weekend.

In our view, Saturday is absolutely massive for Potter. Even his biggest supporters will struggle to defend him if they slip up at home to bottom of the league.
