Paul Merson has delivered his score prediction ahead of Chelsea’s game against Aston Villa this weekend.

Chelsea host Villa at Stamford Bridge on Saturday evening, with three Premier League points up for grabs.

It’s been an underwhelming domestic season for the Blues, who sit 10th in the league table tied on points with their upcoming opponents. However, a run to the Champions League quarter-finals has kept fans interested and upbeat.

These next few league matches feel like great preparation before the two-legged European showdown with Real Madrid.

Paul Merson doesn’t feel like Chelsea are playing for that much now in the league, with Graham Potter still trying to work out his best team.

In contrast, he’s impressed by Villa, suggesting “they’ve been underestimated” under Unai Emery.

He’s tipping a stalemate between Chelsea and Villa at Stamford Bridge.

“Chelsea and Aston Villa are on exactly the same number of points after 27 games – who could’ve predicted that? Aston Villa have improved with Unai Emery and are finding the back of the net every week with him in charge,” Merson told Sportskeeda.

“I still don’t think Graham Potter has found his best eleven. He got a great result against Leicester, but he changed it up again in the following game. Chelsea were excellent against Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League, and they’ve got every chance against Real Madrid over two legs…

“I think Emery is doing a great job at Villa – they’ve been underestimated so far and I don’t see how they don’t score in this game. I don’t think Chelsea can score a bundle of goals just yet, and they could drop points in this fixture.

“Prediction: Chelsea 1-1 Aston Villa.”

Graham Potter will conduct his regular pre-match press conference tomorrow and it’ll be interesting to see who’s available for selection.

Several individuals have impressed during the international break with their countries. Meanwhile, a number of high-profile names have been at Cobham working.

The Athletic reports that Mason Mount could miss the clash against Villa this weekend with his ongoing injury problem.

The 24-year-old scored both goals in Chelsea’s 2-0 win over Villa earlier in the season. Therefore, it would be a massive shame for the attacking midfielder if he’s unavailable on Saturday.
