Paul Merson reckons striker Chelsea reportedly want would be great fit

Paul Merson has claimed he could picture Manchester City’s Sergio Aguero doing really well at Chelsea.

It’s been confirmed that South American attacker Aguero will be leaving the Etihad Stadium at the end of the season when his Man City contract expires.

He’ll be exiting as a club legend, scoring 257 goals in 384 appearances to date.

According to the Daily Mail, Chelsea are currently leading the race to sign the 32-year-old Argentine on a free transfer this summer.

The report claims the centre-forward wants to keep playing in the Premier League, despite the fact there is interest abroad from Barcelona, Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain.

Merson has suggested Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel could take a gamble on him.

“Sergio Aguero would fit like a glove at Chelsea or Arsenal – but I think he’s going to Spain,” Merson wrote for the Daily Star.

“I think the way Arsenal play would suit him. Chelsea have loads of creative players and he wouldn’t be short of chances there either.

“Chelsea need a forward. Thomas Tuchel might try and take a chance on him. You know he’s going to hit the ground running.”

If Chelsea signed Aguero for next season, it would be an incredible piece of business that nobody could have predicted a few months ago.

Aged 32, there is still a chance the clinical striker could still have a few years left in him.

The goal machine has had some injury problems, but hasn’t featured heavily in Pep Guardiola’s plans since returning, and will now depart Man City.

Chelsea’s main issue this year has been converting chances, something Aguero is a master craftsman at.
