Paul Merson was thoroughly impressed with Chelsea after their win over Burnley and picked out defender Thiago Silva as a brilliant performer in the Premier League fixture.
The Blues secured a 3-0 away victory against Burnley in arguably the team’s standout display of the season so far, as there were so many individuals playing at a high level and combinations all over the park were visibly starting to form.
Hakim Ziyech put Frank Lampard’s side ahead with his first-half goal, while in the second period the visitors wrapped up the points with goals from Kurt Zouma and Timo Werner.

Merson believes that Blues defender Silva deserved credit for his contribution, as he helped keep another clean sheet with his commanding presence at the back.
The 36-year-old centre-back has made quite the impact since he joined in the transfer window and the team have kept five clean sheets in the six games he’s played in all competitions.
“Thiago Silva you thought tester today, Burnley away with freezing cold gale force wind,” Merson told Sky Sports News (5:25pm, 31 October).
“Rolls-Royce. Absolutely outstanding. Had both players in his pocket. Chris Wood and Ashley Barnes didn’t go near him in the end he was that dominant.”

There were many people doubting whether veteran defender Silva could make an impact at Stamford Bridge moving to English football so late in his career, but the Paris Saint-Germain legend clearly still has a good amount left in the tank.
The Brazilian was an assuring presence in defence with his organisation and decision making, plus he appears to be rubbing off on his centre-back partner Kurt Zouma in a good way.
