Paul Merson thinks Enzo Fernandez is currently Chelsea’s best player by a mile.

It’s been another challenging start to the new season for Chelsea, picking up four points from their opening four Premier League games.

The Blues squad is still trying to glue together under Mauricio Pochettino’s management, but there’s been a few individuals flexing their muscles in recent weeks.

For certain, Enzo Fernandez is standing out as a talisman in the Chelsea line-up.

The 22-year-old midfielder looks on a completely different wavelength at times with some of the passes and progressive carries on the pitch.

Sky Sports pundit Merson has highlighted Fernandez as Chelsea’s elite player right now.

“Enzo Fernandez is different class – a cut above the rest. But how long will he stand for this?” Merson told Sky Sports.

Incidentally, we would give an honorary mention to Raheem Sterling based off early-season form. As for influential club captain Reece James, he’s currently struggling with the latest in a long line of injuries.

Enzo Fernandez sits top in Europe’s top five leagues this season when it comes to passes into the final third (66), as cited by Squawka.

It highlights the fact that he’s getting a lot more freedom to contribute in attack under Pochettino.

The Argentine midfielder has the guile and technical quality to make a big difference for a Blues side that struggles to score goals.

Hopefully, Chelsea com back after the international break with their shooting boots on. This goes for Fernandez, too!

There’s been a lot made about some of the crazy spending by Chelsea in the past three windows, but the £106.8million deal (Sky Sports) for Fernandez is one of the few signings people may accept as a positive.
