'Pay £200m now, sign him': Some Chelsea fans react after hearing who Lampard wants
Some Chelsea fans have taken to Twitter to react, following speculation that the Blues are reportedly in pursuit of Borussia Dortmund’s prolific youngster Erling Braut Haaland, according to The Athletic.
The report suggests that the west Londoners are keen to lure the forward to Stamford Bridge this summer, as they aim to add another striker as a possible replacement for Olivier Giroud.
The veteran Frenchman is out of contract in the summer and could leave the club on a free transfer at the end of June.
The Haaland hysteria
Haaland has been in terrific form since arriving at Signal Iduna Park in January 2020. The 20-year-old has 35 goals and 35 assists from as many games for die Schwarzgelben. He previously recorded 29 goals and seven assists in 27 games for Salzburg.
It is alleged that the striker, who is out of contract in 2024, has a £66.6 million release-clause (Daily Mail). However, it can only be activated following the end of the 2021-22 season.
The German side will be desperate to keep hold of their talisman, and will undoubtedly insist on a considerably higher fee, if they are to be persuaded into selling him this year.
With several potential suitors monitoring Haaland’s situation, Chelsea are keen to land the forward in the summer. The complications with the COVID-19 pandemic, has had a detrimental impact on clubs’ finances, and thus it could enable the Blues to sign Haaland at a cheaper price.
‘Pay £200 million now…just sign him’
Some Blues fans are relishing the idea of the club acquiring the talented Norwegian forward, taking to Twitter to react to the news.
The Chronicle view
The Blues spent over £200 million during the 2020 summer transfer window. These additions included the former Bundesliga attacking duo Timo Werner and Kai Havertz, who have fallen out of favour in recent matches, due to a drop in form.
Haaland is another offensive-minded player to supposedly arrive from Germany, hoping to follow in their footsteps and those of former BVB player Christian Pulisic.
Haaland thrives with service and is an intelligent player off the ball. He has excellent link-up play, which would only complement the likes of Werner up front.
The German has struggled to find the net in his last ten league matches and would benefit a great deal with Haaland beside him. With Haaland in the side, the Blues’ offensive options would be bolstered further.
His signing could be a key factor in determining whether Chelsea can replicate their dynasty of old.
