Petr Cech thinks Chelsea ‘flop’ replaced by Didier Drogba was actually one of the best finishers he’s ever seen, ‘an absolute joke’…

While Chelsea fans believe they have not had the best striker options in recent years, they have had a number of top talents in their ranks over the years.

Right now, the Blues don’t have a recognised first team option to play up front, however even before injuries Nicolas Jackson’s form was poor.

Supporters therefore find it hard not to compare back to those who have fired the goals in before at Stamford Bridge.

Arguably the best of those is Didier Drogba, who was part of three Premier League-winning campaigns across his two spells at the club.

Yaya Toure believes Drogba should’ve won a Ballon d’Or during his career, and plenty of other former teammates and opponents have been full of praise for the Ivorian.

Petr Cech praises Chelsea ‘flop’ Hernan Crespo

Cesar Azpilicueta praised Drogba as one of the toughest opponents he ever faced, however there was a very realistic chance he hadn’t joined the club at all back in 2004.

According to Wales Online, moving for the Marseille man at the time relied on Hernan Crespo deciding to play his football elsewhere, which he decided to do with a loan move to AC Milan.

Crespo had not had the easiest start to life at Stamford Bridge after very strong spells with three Serie A clubs before joining.

His talent is undoubted across the game though, and one person who is a huge admirer of his striker abilities is Petr Cech.

The former goalkeeper told Amazon Prime that he was actually one of the best finishers he had ever seen, and his timing was absolutely impeccable.

He said: “Crespo’s finishing was honestly an absolute joke. Right foot, left foot, header, an absolute joke.

“His timing, I guarantee you if there was VAR at the time Crespo played, he’d have 50 more goals than he got. Because he got flagged six times offside, and four times he was not, because he had such unbelievable timing.

“His finishing was a joke, he had this side foot but so powerful. The whip, it was crazy. He was really impressive.”

Crespo’s interesting Chelsea career

Crespo was actually a Chelsea player between 2003 and 2008, although only featured for two seasons in that time.

He was part of the Premier League winning side of 2005-06, and scored 13 goals during that campaign.

However, his time as a Chelsea player is not looked at as fondly from the outside. Sky Sports described his tenure in West London as a ‘flop’.

There is certainly a cult-hero status amongst some supporters though, and important goals such as the last-minute winner against Wigan will see him remembered fondly for his spell at the club.
