Crystal Palace believe former Chelsea defender Marc Guehi could be worth £100m one day.

That is according to journalist Dean Jones.

Chelsea sold Guehi to Palace for £18m in 2021 and Jones has told GiveMeSport that there is a belief at Selhurst Park that he could eventually be sold for £100m.

On the 23-year-old following his England exploits, Jones said: “It’s an important step forward for him in his career. He needs that international pedigree to go alongside all the games that he’s managing to notch up in the Premier League. One of the big reasons that Palace already valued him over £60million was because they see him as a future England international.

“Because of his age, they feel like this is a guy that could eventually be worth £100million given the way that the transfer market is going right now. His price tag has already gone up, just off the back of this international break.”

Guehi played a key role for England during the international break, starting both of their games against Ukraine and Scotland.

Will Marc Guehi really be worth £100m in the future?

Honestly, it does not sound that far-fetched when you consider the current market.

Moises Caicedo and Declan Rice, two young Premier League-based players, were sold for enormous fees in the last transfer window, while Harry Maguire, a central defender just like Guehi, cost Manchester United £80m when he joined them from Leicester City back in 2019.

When you consider that and the trajectory Guehi is on, perhaps Palace really will be able to sell him for £100m one day.

In regard to potential suitors, you would not expect Chelsea to be one, and not just because of the England international’s potential price tag.

They already have quite a few central defenders who are around Guehi’s age, such as Wesley Fofana and Benoit Badiashile. As things stand, the Blues probably do not need another one.

It would look silly re-signing a player they sold for £18m for £100m as well, but having done something similar with a certain Romelu Lukaku, maybe it is not impossible.
