Timo Werner is still clearly a Chelsea supporter despite his stuttering few seasons at the club.

The German international returned to RB Leipzig in the summer, just two years after trading his homeland for Stamford Bridge.

Werner made 89 appearances for Chelsea, scored 23 times and lifted the Champions League, Super Cup and Club World Cup.

From the outside, this sounds like a successful stint.

Timo Werner is still a Blue

For those who watched the attacker closely, they know the true extent of his achievements.

His goal tally could’ve increased by almost double had he not missed countless, often golden, chances.

He rarely looked like the player to shoot Chelsea to silverware, even though the forward did contribute to the trophies collected under Thomas Tuchel.

It never felt like things were going to improve in South West London, so Werner decided to reignite his career with Leipzig.

But this hasn’t prevented him from following the Blues and offering them his backing.

Ahead of Chelsea’s Premier League tie against Manchester City last night, the 26-year-old uploaded a post to his Instagram of the game with the caption ‘Come on.’

Unless he has suddenly switched allegiance to City, this was surely an act of fandom towards his former team.

Sadly for Timo, he had to watch Potter’s side fall to another league defeat, but on this occasion in much more admirable measures.

Pep Guardiola’s men only narrowly secured the 1-0 victory, thanks to a real contest from their hosts at the Bridge.

Early injuries to Raheem Sterling and Christian Pulisic meant Chelsea finished the evening with a rather patched together XI.

They could’ve done with Werner coming off the bench…
