Player who Chelsea sold for £58m now named in Champions League Team of the Group stage

One player who was sold by Chelsea back in 2020 has now been named in the team of the group stage for the current Champions League campaign.

CBS Sports have named Atletico Madrid man Alvaro Morata in their squad which also consists of the likes of Jude Bellingham and Bukayo Saka.

Morata has finally found his shooting boots again with the Spanish side, striking up quite the partnership with Antoine Griezmann.

They topped their group comfortably in the end, not losing a game as they booked their place in the last 16.

Chelsea supporters have been forced to watch in envy for the majority of this season after not qualifying last season for any variant of European football after their dire last campaign.

Things did not work out for Morata at Stamford Bridge, with him eventually being moved on after his £58m move to Chelsea was deemed a failure.

Now, he has gone on to show the Blues what they missed out on, with him being named in the team by CBS Sports ahead of the likes of Erling Haaland and Rasmus Hojlund.

Chelsea’s current striker situation is pretty dire, with them unable to find a number nine who can regularly find the net.

Half of Nicolas Jackson’s Premier League goals have come against nine-men, whilst Armando Broja has also struggled to take what has admittedly been his limited opportunities so far.

It is therefore not a surprise that Chelsea are being linked with another big-money move for a number nine, and they may have just learnt their price if they are looking to sign Victor Osimhen.

The reported new contract the Nigerian is set to sign will involve a release clause that we will surely see activated by someone in order to see him move on from Napoli.
