‘Poor’: Jamie Carragher slams £39m Chelsea player, thinks he made life easy for West Ham

Jamie Carragher has criticised Chelsea defender Axel Disasi for his second-half display against West Ham United.

The Blues fell to a 3-1 defeat against their London rivals, and Carragher was left far from impressed with what he saw from Axel Disasi.

Speaking live on Sky Sports during a passage of play involving the Frenchman, the Liverpool legend said: “Played right into their hands there, Disasi. He’s had a poor second half. He’s involved in the goal, he’s given free-kicks away, he’s put crosses over the bar.”

Disasi impressed when he made his debut for Chelsea last weekend, scoring his side’s equaliser in their 1-1 draw with Liverpool.

However, it was a much tougher afternoon for the 25-year-old at the London Stadium.

Chelsea signed Disasi from AS Monaco for around £39m earlier this month.

Axel Disasi has to improve

In Chelsea’s next few fixtures, Disasi has to do much better, otherwise he will lose his place in Mauricio Pochettino’s starting XI.

With the Argentine also possessing the likes of Thiago Silva and Levi Colwill for the centre-back positions, competition in that area of the pitch is fierce. And if his manager starts using a flat back four, that is one less place available.

It is perhaps too early to judge Disasi, who was making just his second Premier League appearance and came up against a physically strong opponent in Michail Antonio.

However, you would not blame any Chelsea supporter if they were concerned by what they saw from the France international and some of his team-mates today.

The Blues now have a good opportunity to bounce back, though, when they take on newly-promoted Luton Town at Stamford Bridge on Friday, a game they will be expected to win.

And it will be interesting to see if Pochettino sticks with Disasi or decides to change things up at the back.
