Andy Jacobs has delivered a pretty scathing assessment of Robert Sanchez’s time so far at Chelsea.
The Blues paid Brighton £25million (Sky Sports) in the summer transfer window to sign Robert Sanchez, who’s stepped into the role as Chelsea’s first-choice goalkeeper.
He’s kept just one clean sheet in his opening five Blues appearances across all competitions, which was in the Premier League victory against Luton Town.
The 25-year-old Spanish keeper has made a few eye-catching saves since arriving. That has been accompanied by the odd dodgy moment in-between the sticks, too.
TalkSPORT pundit Jacobs really isn’t impressed by what he’s seen from Sanchez during his brief stint at Chelsea. In particular, he really doesn’t rate him as a good passer of the football, which is now a fundamental skill of all the top goalkeepers in the world.
“Sanchez, I don’t get it. He was Brighton’s third keeper. You paid £25million for him,” Jacobs told talkSPORT.
“He’s not a great shot-stopper. His distribution is pretty poor. Brighton didn’t think he was good enough; why do you think he’s good enough?”
A change in net has been very much welcomed by most Chelsea supporters this season. We agree it was definitely time to move on from both Kepa Arrizabalaga and Edouard Mendy at Stamford Bridge.
The jury is still out on whether Sanchez is the right candidate to be the long-term number one. It’s definitely a concern when question marks begin to emerge about his ball distribution.
In contrast, Ben Foster recently said via his YouTube channel that Sanchez has started well at Chelsea and is decent enough with the ball at his feet.
