‘Possibly’: TalkSPORT pundit suggests Chelsea could look to re-sign 24-year-old player already

Trevor Sinclair suggests Chelsea could look to re-sign their striker Tammy Abraham to improve their attack.

Abraham, who came through the Blues academy, was sold last year to Roma.

The England striker has made a colossal impact in Rome, scoring 27 goals in 52 games across all competitions for the Serie A club. He’s starting for Roma in Wednesday night’s UEFA Europa Conference League final against Feyenoord, too.

Should Chelsea re-sign Tammy Abraham?

TalkSPORT pundit Sinclair reckons Chelsea could end up looking to bring Abraham back to Stamford Bridge, especially because of Romelu Lukaku’s struggles this season.

“They possibly could revisit Tammy Abraham [given] the season he’s had and look at the Lukaku situation because he doesn’t seem like he’s settled too well there,” Sinclair told talkSPORT.

Abraham netted 30 times in 82 first-team appearances for Chelsea, but Thomas Tuchel’s side decided to offload him last summer to make room in their squad.

Roma boss Jose Mourinho thinks the 24-year-old centre-forward has only improved since his transfer.

In contrast, Lukaku’s 2021/22 season hasn’t quite gone to plan since his return to west London from Inter Milan. He scored 15 goals in 44 games across all competitions, with his overall impact on the side much smaller than everyone predicted.

It still feels like the club are on the search to find a successor for Diego Costa, who actually left the Bridge back in 2017.

There’s been some high-profile and quality strikers wear the Chelsea kit over the last couple of decades, but the burden has proved too much for so many.

If Lukaku is in contention next season, maybe there’s still time for him to show his true quality. You’ve got to admit with hindsight Abraham’s sale may look a mistake right now, though.
