Potential Moises Caicedo injury update as Chelsea star spotted returning after Club World Cup semi-final

Chelsea’s near-perfect Club World Cup semi-final was tarnished by a moment which occurred in added time, when the result was pretty much secure.

Moises Caicedo seemed to twist his ankle when making a challenge in midfield, leaving him rolling around in pain in the middle of the pitch.

The Ecuador international tried to continue, however Chelsea finished the 2-0 win with 10 men after already making all of their substitutions.

There was a lot to like about the Blues’ performance in the quarter-final, particularly in attack after Joao Pedro’s sensational brace on his first start for the club.

As always though, Caicedo played a key role in the middle of the park, and would be a huge loss for Chelsea if he was to miss the Club World Cup final against PSG on Sunday.

Enzo Maresca is already without Romeo Lavia and Dario Essugo for the game, and adding arguably their best player to that list would be a significant blow.

A TikTok video posted by ‘bzjannn’ showed the Chelsea squad getting off the bus after returning from the game, with Caicedo filmed amongst his teammates.

The 23-year-old can be seen limping, with strapping around his ankle in order to support his movement.

If Caicedo is not able to feature on Sunday, responsibility would likely fall to Andrey Santos to make easily his most important appearance for Chelsea yet.

The Brazilian impressed in the quarter-final against Palmeiras, despite having just minutes to prepare following the injury to Reece James in the warm up.

Moises Caicedo’s incredible fitness record at Chelsea

Given his importance to the side, the fact that Caicedo has been as available as he has so far has been close to a miracle.

The midfielder was the only Chelsea player to start every single Premier League game last season, with him getting rests in the early stages of the Conference League.

Caicedo was somehow snubbed for a Team of the Season place after his performances, and he will be hoping he gets the opportunity to feature in the final to prove his capabilities against the Champions League holders.

He has missed just two games due to illness or injury since moving to Stamford Bridge, and everyone is crossing their fingers that it won’t become three at the weekend.
