Chelsea winger Raheem Sterling got his name on the scoresheet in his side’s 1-1 draw with Manchester City over the weekend.
After being played in by Nicolas Jackson, Raheem Sterling chopped inside of Kyle Walker before curling the ball into Ederson’s net with his right foot.
However, the 29-year-old has told Chelsea’s official website that he was initially going to go early with his left foot until he felt his former City team-mate breathing down his neck.
It was a big goal for Sterling, who had not scored in the Premier League since November.
It was his sixth in the top flight this season, meaning he has now matched his tally from last term.
Raheem Sterling talks goal against Manchester City
Sterling has shared what was going through his head in the build-up to his goal against the Premier League champions.
“I was pleased to score and help the team, of course,” the England international said. “I was played in and I felt Kyle coming in fast behind me. That made my mind up to check back onto my right, as initially I was thinking I’d shoot early with my left.
“That gave the chance to have a quick change of direction to create a little more space and thankfully I was able to finish it off.”

Mauricio Pochettino needs to see more of the same from Raheem Sterling
Sterling really took his time with his latest goal against City. He was calm, thought about everything and then acted.
Chelsea supporters have not always seen that from the wide man and the rest of the team’s attackers this season, who do tend to get it wrong in the final third a lot of the time.
When it comes to goals scored, most of their traditional rivals are above them in the standings. If the likes of Sterling and Jackson had been more clinical and decisive, it would probably be a much different story.
It is an area Mauricio Pochettino‘s men are going to have to improve in if they want to return to the top four next season.
