‘Rather have him’… Craig Burley now wants Mauricio Pochettino to start 22-year-old Chelsea player

It does not look like former Chelsea player Craig Burley is a huge fan of Nicolas Jackson.

Craig Burley recently criticised Nicolas Jackson when speaking on ESPN FC and has stated that he would rather see Armando Broja start up front.

Jackson was in good form just before the international break, managing to score four goals against Manchester City and Tottenham Hotspur.

However, he was unable to carry it into the Newcastle United game, which Mauricio Pochettino‘s side went on to lose 4-1.

It was a really bad defeat, which did not seem to go down too well with those at Stamford Bridge.

Armando Broja over Nicolas Jackson

Burley wants to see Broja replace Jackson in Chelsea’s starting XI.

Discussing the two strikers on ESPN, he said: “Let’s be honest, Nico Jackson’s not the answer. I don’t dislike Broja. I know he’s had his injury problems, but I think I’d rather have him up front than Jackson.

“I know he got his goals against Tottenham. But come on, let’s be realistic, they were down to nine men at the time.”

Who should start against Brighton & Hove Albion, Nicolas Jackson or Armando Broja?

We cannot all of a sudden forget what Jackson did just before the international break.

Four goals against two of the best teams in the country is really impressive, even if his hat-trick versus Tottenham did come against nine men.

His performance at St James’ Park was not great, but he probably lost a bit of momentum after the Premier League’s brief break, while Newcastle are obviously not an easy team to take on, especially at home.

Considering all of the above, then, it may be worth giving Jackson the nod for the visit of Brighton. If the Senegal international struggles in that game, too, then Pochettino should give serious consideration to bringing in Broja.

The 22-year-old does have something to offer, showing how good his centre-forward play actually is in the 4-4 draw with City.

Broja was so composed when he took the ball down and invited Ruben Dias to make a challenge at the end of the game, which resulted in his side winning a penalty.
