Transfer insider journalist Rudy Galetti has claimed that Jose Mourinho is waiting for a call from Chelsea to become their new manager.

Galetti told Tribal Football that the Premier League winner is prepared to try and take the Blues back to the top of the European game.

Reports have begun to state that Mourinho is set to leave Roma at the end of the season, after bringing some success back to the Serie A side.

He led a side powered by Tammy Abraham to the inaugural Europa Conference League victory, and kept them in the fight for the top four in Italy.

His time seemingly coming to an end in Rome is coinciding with Chelsea’s current hunt for a third permanent manager of the season.

Mourinho wants Chelsea job

Julian Nagelsmann and Luis Enrique have been named as the favourites for the job, with talks ongoing with both candidates.

Galetti has claimed that Mourinho’s name remains in the conversation due to his desire to take the job.

He said: “However, nothing is decided yet: Mourinho is also hoping for a call from Chelsea for June.

“In the event of an offer from the Blues (anyway, Julian Nagelsmann is in pole position), José would be ready to return to the Premier League, accepting a great challenge: to bring Todd Boehly’s club back to being one of the strongest in Europe.”

His reputation with the Chelsea fans is certainly high, following two successful spells with the club that both resulted in Premier League wins.

However, you can’t help but feel like Chelsea are looking to go into a different direction with their appointment, instead looking to someone who can carry out the plan of Todd Boehly into the future.
