‘Really poor’: Scott Minto rips into Chelsea player for what he did during performance against Salzburg

Scott Minto ripped into Chelsea’s Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang by saying he produced a “really poor miss” in yesterday’s win against Red Bull Salzburg.

Graham Potter’s Blues side turned on the style with a really eye-catching display away to Salzburg, eventually winning the Champions League game 2-1.

Mateo Kovacic and Kai Havertz were both on the scoresheet for the visitors with two ridiculous finishes. As a result, Chelsea have secured top spot in Group E and safe passage to the Champions League knockout rounds in the New Year.

Despite the win and a great display, Potter must be disappointed that his team weren’t more clinical after some excellent build up play.

Aubameyang miss

Minto couldn’t believe Aubameyang failed to score in the first-half when presented with a glorious opportunity.

Chelsea produced a sensational passage of play in the 32nd minute. It started with the goalkeeper and included some slick passing to carve through the Salzburg team from defence to attack. Unfortunately, Blues striker Aubameyang couldn’t finish off the move at the end of it and saw his shot inside the box saved.

“It’s the first touch! It’s bobbling up so tries to wait longer and the goalkeeper comes out,” Minto told talkSPORT.

“They are the opportunities that should be meat and drink for him. That’s a really poor miss.

“He simply has to score.”

The goals are drying up for Aubameyang with three goals in nine Chelsea appearances this season, but the intent to get in the right positions is still there.

Let’s hope the 33-year-old striker can quickly rediscover his scoring boots because he does bring a lot to the XI.

His first-half miss against Salzburg is one he’ll be playing back in his head as he wasted the chance to finish off an excellent team goal.

There’s still plenty of time to shine before a pause for the winter World Cup, though.
