Chelsea’s co-director of recruitment and talent Joe Shields told the club to sign Cole Palmer during the summer.
Cole Palmer has impressed at Chelsea since arriving from Manchester City on deadline day, and Simon Phillips has written on Si Phillips Talks Chelsea that the attacking midfielder was a “recommendation” from Shields.
According to the journalist, Romeo Lavia, who joined the Blues before Palmer, was also a name the Chelsea director suggested.

The 21-year-old played a key role in his side’s 4-1 win against Burnley just before the international break, scoring a penalty and assisting a goal at Turf Moor on the afternoon.
Cole Palmer a good recommendation
Shields deserves some credit for pushing for Palmer, as Chelsea have looked like a much better side with him in it.
The England U21 international, who has been described as “incredible” by his former City team-mate Kyle Walker, also played a part in the Blues’ wins against Fulham and Brighton & Hove Albion prior to their triumph over Burnley.

Palmer can play as a No.10 and on the wing and at just 21 years of age, you would expect him to get even better.
Chelsea signed Palmer in an initial £40m deal, which is not an outrageous fee in this day and age. If he keeps playing the way he has been, his signing will go down as a success.
It is early days, but Chelsea fans will be pleased with what they have seen from Palmer so far. Hopefully he can now help Mauricio Pochettino’s side to pick up more points when they take on Arsenal next weekend.
