Tuchel has hinted that James may be available to feature again before the tournament comes to an end, with England lacking his quality in possession.
Chelsea fans and Xabi Alonso may be unhappy that his fitness would be put at risk before he returns to Cobham, although few would be able to turn down a place in the latter stages of the World Cup.
There could be a position change in store for James when he does return to his club, with Marco Palestra already being confirmed as a new Chelsea player.
Alonso is reportedly planning for James to play as a midfielder, a role he played briefly in England’s first World Cup game against Croatia.
