Cole Skuse has said he saw Trevoh Chalobah’s emergence as a Chelsea star coming from a mile off when they were teammates at Ipswich Town.

Speaking to i, Skuse shared his predictions on his former Tractor Boys colleague, which have now come true.

Chalobah had to be patient before cracking through the concrete wall at Chelsea.

After climbing the Cobham ranks, the versatile defender spent three years on loan away from Stamford Bridge.

His initial steps into senior football began in unfortunate circumstances, as Ipswich were relegated from the Championship.

Demotion almost doused the 22-year-old’s second loan stint too after he narrowly avoided the drop with Huddersfield Town the following season.

As if fate had painted a black mark above Chalobah’s head, he was close to facing the drop again while representing French side Lorient last term.

Trevoh back on track

A superstitious manager may have cast him far out to sea, but Thomas Tuchel is clearly a rational thinker.

He recalled Chalobah for the current campaign and instantly put his faith in the Chelsea youngster.

Starting in the Super Cup is no small feat, nor is scoring on your Premier League debut or keeping a clean sheet against Aston Villa.

“To see what he’s doing now isn’t a surprise in the slightest,” Skuse confesses proudly.

“You could see from an athletic standpoint he had a real presence but his understanding and technical ability even then was remarkable.

“He could glide past players easily with his running power.”

Now an established member of Tuchel’s squad, Chalobah’s future looks a lot more settled.

Unless, of course, the Blues decide to sign another centre-back in January.

Jules Kounde is on the radar, a recruit that would reshuffle the defensive pack.

More reorganisation would be required if Antonio Rudiger fails to renew his contract before January.
